Background to Blokes, Beers & Burritos

When Jo was in her twenties, she was professionally successful in her sales career, but personally she was a mess. Instead of allowing it to destroy her, she used it to discover how she could change her life. It took Jo over ten years to learn how to take control of her life, and to achieve purpose and happiness in her personal and professional life. Jo wanted to be able to help young women who are currently facing similar challenges to be able to turn their lives around in a much shorter timespan than it took her. The result is Blokes, Beers & Burritos; the worlds’ first self-help novel which combines the steps to happiness within the pages of travel and chick-lit fiction.

Life changing! A really FANTASTIC funny/self help read and completely different to anything I’ve ever read before (Ms P Conlon – 5* Amazon review)

I’m so glad I happened upon this book. This is a story about a girl who shares her story about travelling around South America alone, but the story is not what you expect it to be. Cath is the subject of the story and she’s fed up with repeating the same negative patterns in her life – she gets dumped by her boyfriend on her birthday (!) and essentially runs away to South America and throws herself into drink-fuelled situations with other guys. But then she gets mysterious messages from ‘the Bliss Expert’ and these messages cause Cath to start to question her behaviour and bit by bit she changes into a happier and much more positive version of herself. I was not expecting it to be both a funny/lighthearted (at times I was reading it with my hands over my eyes CRINGING for Cath), AND a self help book. It was completely unexpected but absolutely FANTASTIC to read something so well written and thought provoking. It’s really given me lots of things to think about and examine in my own life in a really nice, gentle and helpful way that’s really easy to understand. What a clever idea to have a such helpful book written in this way – as a working mum of 2 small children I have very little time to read (as I can’t stay awake long enough to finish anything!) but I sped through this book and found myself bringing it downstairs to read with my morning cuppa as I was so keen to keep reading it. I hope this book is the first of many, it was a genuinely fantastic read. If you want both a lighthearted/funny read and something to help guide you on how to lead a happier, healthier life where you’re more in control of your own destiny, then read this book. I highly recommend it.

About the book

The story follows Cath Brown who is an ordinary twenty-something girl who is fed-up with her job, eats and drinks too much, and continually falls for unsuitable men. Even though she knows she should quit them all, she can’t. Being cruelly dumped on her birthday is the final straw so she abandons her life in London and flies off to Mexico for a year’s adventure.

As her journey begins Cath receives mysterious emails from a stranger who knows too much about her to be a coincidence. The Bliss Expert promises to reveal Ten Steps to Bliss, which will give her everything she has always wanted: purpose, love, hope and happiness.

Readers can join Cath in her wayward travels as she explores new lands, new blokes and opportunities to unleash her inner self. They can also follow the Ten Steps to Bliss with Cath and discover the powerful effects they can have in their life so that they can become the best version of themselves too.
